OLD NEWS

February 18 , 2005

Because we use the cheapest hosting available, our email service has been nonexistent off & on for the last couple of weeks. The web site seems fine, it's just my email that is fucked. And I've had it. So, please update your address books with this info: min at dragnetrecords dot com is now singaiya at yahoo.com.

New Intelligence tune is up, from their upcoming LP, "Icky Baby". A Frames is likely going to play two shows at SXSW instead of not playing like I said earlier. ok!

January 7 , 2005

Breaker breaker. Is this thing on? I seriously doubt anyone will see this, since we never update anymore. Ahhh. We (AFRAMES) had a close call and almost lost our practice space when our longtime spacemates THE BRINGERS broke up and moved out. Luckily, Dean "Double Fudge, Unnatural Helpers, ex-Intelligence, etc etc" Whitmore saved the day and is moving in. Not really any other news to report that I can think of. Just wanted to do an update to remember how to do it. Oh yeah, we're going to Japan for three days at the end of February! And we are not going to SXSW. I will see about getting some new tunes up on this here thing.

October 12, 2004

Hi everyone. Long time no see. How have you been? I'm fine. Ok, there's a few big juicy news items here. First:

Erin & Laura done went and got hitched. It's true. They kept it secret from everybody in the world. Send your love and greetings to the Elmgrove 5 (3 cats). We couldn't be happier for them.

A-FRAMES next LP "Black Forest" will be released on Subpop. When? Not sure. Erin is going to California some time in November to mix it with Woodhouse. We're hopeful for a springtime release, and a May-ish tour of Europe. S-S Records and Omnibus have been threatening to release A-FRAMES 7"s, not sure when those will arrive. I'm not sure about the Omnibus one, but at least the S-S will be 1000 copies. The only way to thwart the dreaded ebay machine. Also, the wonderful & frightening world of Monty Buckles: M B is making a video for the "Memoranda", a song from "Black Forest". I saw a very early rough cut and it was great.

The Intelligence just wrapped up recording the next LP. Now I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think this recording features the full band, or at least some people in the band, as opposed to being all done by Lars. Will confirm that as soon as I know. Word on the street is that IN THE RED is going to release it next year. Hey! Oh yeah, go to NYC to see them with THE FALL.

A-Frames upcoming album "BLACK FOREST" needs to be mixed again. So, we don't really know when it will come out. Haven't made a decision on which label yet either. We're still hopeful for a release by year's end, but who knows, it could be next year.

June 2, 2004

December 24, 2003

I have quit The Intelligence again. For the same reason as last time, which is that I don't have enough time to do it. I guess maybe I should have seen that coming. It was a tough decision but had to be done. They are a great band and deserve someone who can give it the time it needs. Someone under 25, with no other band, no S.O., no job & no prospects maybe. If you meet two of those conditions, and you rip ass on bass, give L-Balls a call!

A-Frames are going to re-record the next album in March, the attempt in October was too punchy and warm. Also we're going to tour in May, stay tuned!

Go see The Dipers/Coachwhips show! It'll be a crazy fun time.

November 11, 2003

ITEM! the Inteligence will be playing shows to celebrate. um, thier new LP (CD only!) 'boredom and terror'

12/6 - Seattle WA @ The Fun House w/ Electro Group, Science Victim

October 16, 2003

The Dipers CD is available! It's on Omnibus Records and you can order it from Tonevendor or S-S. The Dipers are/were an elusive trio that trashed music and stages all over and features the Dragnet family of EMPHYSEMA, RICKETTS, and CIRROSIS.

AFRAMES just got back from recording their next record in Sacramento, hopefully that will come out in the spring 2004. Also sorry to say AFRAMES had to cancel this Saturday's show with the Black Lips. I think Fleetwood Mac had something to do with that. Wassaup? Luckily the Electric Blanket will step in and save the day!

September 15, 2003

Maybe you've noticed that this site is down a lot lately, and emails to me get returned. I don't know why that is but I gave our hosting company an ultimatum of fixing whatever's wrong or I find someplace else to host this stuff. Maybe I'm getting what I pay for? Also AOL now thinks this domain is a spammer. Any AOL users I write to or reply to aren't getting my emails. So I'm workin' on it. In the meantime, email me using singaiya at yahoo dot com. -Min

September 1, 2003

AFRAMES will be recording in October with Chris Woodhouse for a new record, with a couple shows to go with it. One in Sacramento, one in San Francisco, and maybe one in Portland. SF will be October 10th at the Parkside, and I'll post the Sacto show when I know what it is...

The Intelligence will be recording soon and will have a CD out on Omnibus Records. Also look for a few west coast shows in November...

The Dipers will have an Omnibus release due out on December 8th!

The Vulvettes CD is now out!! Order this one now -- it will grill your sorry head and kill your ass...

July 21, 2003

ok we got a lotta catching up to do. first the old news. most of you already know that the intelligence has a new lineup, #6? it's lars, kimberly, matthew, min. that's 1/2 aframes, 1/4 flying dutchmen, and 1/4 pyramids, for theose of you who are keeping score (that's a 1-4-5 double play). i'm sure you've heard. their first show was in portland with coachwhips and x27. a few more messy shows and it'll gel real nice i'm sure. a recording with this lineup in september should be able to tell what's what.

still no aframes shows till at least mid-sep. a recording is scheduled for mid-oct.

the vulvettes cd will be here this friday, July 25 2003! email me to buy one. i'll put some of their music on the songs page soon. i've just been real busy i promise. it's primo shit, there is no comparison i can think of. real abrasive, aggressive, downer wave damage. tuxedomoon, screamers, flipper are mere reference points.

thanks to everyone for coming out to the recent shows... clone defects/intelligence - it was crazy... a/frames/pyramids/dipers - that was a treat for all involved. impromtu dipers set blew heads, blood was spilt, groping. MHz/sweet jap at Zak's was xecellent. Andy drank beer, which he never does before playing. That Bert. We were witness.

Finally, we give our hearts and condolensces to the family and friends of the Exploding Hearts, and all the other people we know who have died in the last month. (It's been too many.)

June 20, 2003

AFRAMES 2003 tour journal! It's finally done! Be bored stupid reading about it! There's also pictures and sound clips of it all! You nerds!

April 23, 2003

Emphysema just found out that he has to work in NYC for June & July, possibly August & September, so that means A-Frames won't be available for shows for at least the first half of summer, maybe the whole thing. Also, due to another NYC trip he just got assigned, A-Frames have to cancel playing with Corpse Fucks Corpse on April 17 at Zak's. Work can be a bitch... sorry.

January 24, 2003

the pyramids first show was a corker. they're a noisy guitar-drums duo that's got the rhythm, and their "songs" flow into each other seamlessly. thanks go to dan for bringing the p.a. and jesse and jim for for recording it.

the new years eve gloryholes/a-frames show at the comet was a blast for all involved. where the fuck did that mustard gas bomb come from? same goes for steve's 40th birthday party last weekend. the skull suckers started the fun with plenty of songs worth covering: butthole surfers, warsaw, the fall, minutemen. i think they did urinals or 100 flowers too. next it was the lonesome teardrops, who i missed due to other party action. then the spits played and the mayhem was unleashed as expected. a-frames finished last around 2am and played nothing but the rockin' oldies. big thanks to cary and housemates for hosting the party and providing us all with a great time.

shows page has been updated and the big news is the scientists are NOT playing on feb 13th (or any other day/city in the u.s.). word is the guy who was to pay their airfare decided not to. check the shows page, some great sacramento bands are coming up here april/may: corpse fucks corpse and the fm knives.

the intelligence welcomes "unhappy" tom into their family, on the mean guitar. and very soon the intelligence will have two dads in the band: dean jr or emily II is almost ready to leave the womb.

a-frames s/t cd release due at the end of february!

December 3, 2002

a-frames finished recording & mixing their 2nd album. an auspicious occasion. 13 songs in 3 days. they wish it to be known that many thanks are in order to: laura cassidy, jesse paul miller, lisa rickenberg, lisa seguin, tara, josh turgeon, lara kohl, xochi, and especially to chris woodhouse and scott soriano.

a-frames play with the pyramids december 12 at 2nd ave pizza. it maybe will start at 6:00 and definitely will end by 9:00, and it's free & all ages & you can drink there too. 2nd ave pizza is located on 2nd ave.

September 17, 2002

Well after moving into my new place I finally got an internet connection and can update this here web site. Listen up! No more A-Frames LPs available through this site! There should be copies available soon through S-S Records and maybe Underground Medicine, and at A-Frames shows.

Also note that the A-Frames can't play the Portland show with The Hunches on October 11th. But catch the Pho Bang show in Seattle on September 26th, it will be a special one.

August 16, 2002

Dearest Regina,

So word on the street is that the instrument-playing members of The Chromatics are moving to San Francisco very soon. That means if you don't go see them next Friday at the Crocodile you are stupid. It will be your last chance. And Erase Errata is playing too, so make that double stupid. If I remember right Chromatics are also playing this Sunday at the Sit & Spin.

Some updates on general shit: The Intelligence are hopefully going on tour in October down the west coast. Dates and places will be posted when they get booked. They have expanded their band too, tricking Dave Hernandez into playing guitar and Jed Mayhew on bass. They have a split 7" with Popular Shapes coming out in a month.

A-Frames finished their song for this year's X-mas Surprise Package 7" comp on Flying Bomb Records. Also on the record will be The Henchmen, and Andy Mhz' black metal band, and one more (Piranhas???). The last two shows were really fun, thanks to everyone for showing up and making it a good time. Don't miss the next one with the Country Teasers and The Hospitals at Industrial Coffee on Aug 26. A 7" on Royal Records is in the works too, with "Crutches" "Doko Mogadishu" and "Weissensee". The LP covers continue to ooze out at the typical glacial pace -- sorry and thanks to everyone who's being patient. They are after all 100% hand made. Some lucky people may even have gotten bloody covers since I almost sliced my finger off while putting one together.

Your pal, Cholera

part 1 of ricketts' tour journal!

July 28, 2002

yeah, I'm reading the fucking tour diary. The whole fucking thing. Fucking sue me. What a sad sack I am. "I'm dying of stupidity". I'm writing fucking dirge metal songs now. I like doing "the wave" at baseball games better than playing shows in a band, I realized last night. Shoot me. Please. Soon. I NEED TO DIE (because I'm happy this way). "Modified Sandals" can't be too far behind. Hey Min, send me a cd of all that crazy shit, I need a good sonic ass-kicking, I'm sick of my records. Hey Erin, I can't write "old" Karate Party style songs anymore because I feel like I'm just writing a lamer AFrames song. Goddamn it. How do you write a better robot riff than Modular? I give up. Hey Lars, uh, whatever.

-Dianna Rigg

July 22, 2002

I read rickets tour diary...yes the whole thing. at the to it says it is not editted "for better or worse."
I vote "for worse
yes, you can quote me on that.

July 3, 2002

A-Frames LP update: Ok, so not all the covers are done. We have a handful that I'll be sending out tomorrow to those who have orders in. Sorry for the delay!! Since coming back from tour we've been discombobulated and in disorder. We have set a date with our printer to get the rest of the covers (or at least a lot more) on July 10th.

June 19, 2002

The A-Frames tour went well. Thanks to everyone who got us shows, put us up, fed us, played with us, stayed up drinking with us, went to a show, bought a record, or helped us out. Ricketts may have a more detailed report as soon as he returns from the land of the meatball.

May 3, 2002

Lady and Gentlemen and Woodhouse, there is some news. Sadly the Intelligence must announce the departure of Karlis Blow-Up, and all around pleasure and handsome man. There are rumors of fistfights and thrown drinks but i doubt this is true. However in honor of the duo + 1 format(Emphysema A-frame is filling in for a spell) we are now called DUCES WILD. I invite you to watch EMP's fingers blister on the hard on the fingers easy on the eyes white 'soap bar' bass (that i call cool while deans eyes roll) on may 10th at the sunset tavern which 2/3rd's of us might have been banned from. look for disguises.

Also, the A-frames LP should be out with hope by the 10th of may. Also on may 12th the A-frames will be playing with the fantastic FM Knives from Sacramento. I would not miss this show, FM Knives feature E.T. Chris Woodhouse of Karate Party on guitar and some Pretty Girls. I can't remember a band this great coming in a long time.

PS> the great Hospitals will be there too. Get Monday off.

April 23, 2002

PS: everybody go check out The Hospitals if you can. They are a fucked-up, over-the-top duo from Portland who do it crypt style. They've got a Woodhouse recording, so some lucky label will do themselves a favor by putting it out

March 13, 2002

i put up new songs today and 4 new pictures. if you're lucky it will pic the new photos. i got chicken pox last month. yay. but the BIG news is we mailed the A-FRAMES LP order in, so it's a matter of weeks until it's available. A-FRAMES are beginning to plan & book their midwest tour for late may early june, so watch for that too. and if you live in seattle, do yourself a goddamn favor and go see THE CHROMATICS already.

February 12, 2002

stellas is the best place to play. the pulses are the best band to play with. flapjacks too is the best place to eat. vicodin is the best for a hangover. 'i'm like a chocoholic but for booze'. the best place to go this saturday is the party at the teen cthcuhtullu/catuahoola hounds house in ballard. the best bands the popular shapes and the un-natural helpers are playing. please email lafhwj@aol.com for directions.
-RICKETTS

January 21, 2002

It's been a while since this news page got updated, and there still isn't much to say. The A-Frames LP will be ready in a few months. The recording is finished. The Screamers tribute on Extravertigo Records will be released at the end of February, which will have songs by A-Frames, The Intelligence, and many other fine bands. My favorite word for the moment is mutilation.

November 27, 2001

Not much to say... After three months of non-action A-Frames played two shows in November. The recording from September is going to get new vocals, then it will be released on Dragnet. In time for a tour in the spring hopefully. Then a recording session at the end of the tour for an LP on Detroit's Flying Bomb, which will come out late September. And there's also a song for their X-Mas compilation 7" for next year!

Wasn't The Fall show a disappointment? At least the vocals sounded good... Now here's a little tour diary from Ricketts:

welcome back to dragnet news, you'd think with 2/3 of the band being
unemployed we'd update this thing more, but as my girlfriend says "what did
you do that was CONSTRUCTIVE today" my favorite answer is nothing baby,
nothing.
anyway, a few weeks ago we got the pleasure of playing with the LOWDOWN from
Santa Cruz, who are my new favorite band. I can't describe them without the
ambiguous no wave/art/destructo bullshit, but i'll just say they're the only
band that should be allowed a keyboard in this day of the new wave grunge.
maybe min'll put up an MP3.
the intelligence played with them in bellingham at the show off gallery, a
great dingy little space where the kids can get fucked up. the GUILTY
TEACHERS
from OLY played and i liked them, then MACK DOG, who is a guy in a
POWERPUFF GIRLS costume (bubbles) who rizaps about PAPA MURPHY'S pizza over a casio. then GIANT BIRD THAT EATS HORSES, which is arrington from OLD TIME
RELIJUN
's free jazz thing (bass clarinet, double bass, piano [tonight on a
cdr] and michael from BEHEAD THE PROPHET on violin). i thought
they were great but other 'punkers' who won't drive the van and eat your food
when you aren't looking, thought it was not so great. but they are wrong. as
usual. the LOWDOWN played and destroyed everyone. then DAVE BLOW-UP was a
gentleman and drove the van (thank you dave) for a few hours while we looked
for this party, where i suffered minor lacerations falling into bramble
bushes and old particle boards after trying to hide my fireman from the
bonfire party dudes. but i'm an entertainer so it was worth it. then we got a
flat when the cops showed up. which was funny because the cop had a
'civilian' woman in the front seat all gussied up, which set off jokes about
a show called 'blind date cops'. that's about it. the next night the LOWDOWN, THE THRONES, THE CHROMATICS, and THE MONITOR BATS played I-spy, we were supposed to play too but i think i fucked it up somehow. I heard the show was great but i didn't go cause i'm a sissy.
the next night the A Frames got to play Oly. finally at a house party with a
tiny tiny basement! The THRONES, played and since it was 9:30 and the noise
had to stop at 10:00 we got to play about 5 songs (which is nice, you don't
get tired) and the LOWDOWN played a few great songs, that i was thrilled to
hear and that the rest of the a frames got to see because in bellingham the
other nerds went to get food, which took them and hour, to return with 7-11
hotdogs, and missed thier whole set.
then we got to go out drinking with Noel and Josh from the L.D. who are cool
and funny and nice, thank you for the shows and the fun. guess who puked out
the window in the middle of the night?

October 10, 2001

Ummmm...I think the wrestling mask was Lars's and wasn't the broom handle left in him?

Pig Pile. Nice name. But don't you think Resin Ball has a better ring to it?

I-ree (how ever the fuck its spelled), bros.

--Serge

October 8, 2001

HOLY SMOKES (and Giant Lollipops-[that'll make sense later]) Double Fudge has done it, they got the record finished. I'm not kidding, I'm holding one in my hand right now, well, it's on the floor next to me, but still. And it fucking smokes! Nine songs on this 7". All the favorites, Father/Son Fistfight, Emme, Shutdown, etc. Great cover too, nice follow up to the public transit/KFC cover on the first 7".

Speaking of Sacramento, Chris Woodhouse (Karate Party, ex-Pretty Girls, Plastica knob twidler) and Scott Sorryono (Los Huevos, the Skirts, Moo La La Records) came up to record last weekend with the A-Frames, though we've changed our name to PIG PILE, and it went great, although it's always 420 with those bros. but we got 11 songs done, and were graced with Joanne Claxton (Heroic Trio, ex-Intelligence) and Lisa Rickenbacherberg (Wiretaps, Inhalants) backing vocals. Oh, yeah and Sexy Sorryono 'sang' a Screamers cover, and we all had a great time as ususal, thank you Sacto. Yoo Hoo, someone left a 'wrestling' mask and a splintery broom handle in our practice space...

September 7, 2001

Hmm, news? Joanne Claxton quit the Intelligence (good idea) but Karlis from the Blow-Up is gonna slide into those knee-high boots just fine i think. the int. is also working on an LP (about half done) and should sound almost as shitty as the 7" but with more tracks, bells and whistles, and should be out in Oct. i hope.

The Double Fudge (remember them?) 7" should be out any day now, which in fudge speak could mean next summer.

And amid the bidding war between Dragnet and nobody, A-Frames will record their debut LP with Sacramento's King Midas, Chris Woodhouse, at the controls (and Scott Soriano at the knobs, get it?).
(r>i>c>k>e>t>t>t>s>)

A-Frames "Neutron Bomb" 7" is now officially out of print, but there are a some copies still out there. Try Dave Hill Distro, Subterranean, or Underground Medicine. Buy the new Los Huevos record before it's too late.

And is Gibson's really closed? What happened? Where will the Lost Sounds play Saturday night? The Dirtbombs show last week was fantastic and the Intelligence were very swank as well. There's a few new songs in there that sounded real ace. There was something about if I ever get to sleep again I am never waking up. I could totally relate to that line like 5 years ago.

Ok, I just got the email that said Gibson's insurance was too expensive because the building will cost a zillion dollars to repair on account of that earthquake back on Feb 28th. Uh huh. I guess it takes 6 months to find these things out.

okay okay here are some "new" songs, old to you of course until you get your ass out here and record the A-FRAMES LP.

What's your thoughts on the Ebola virus?

Ahh, Mother Ebola. The mother of this earth. Sweet, sweet Ebola. The Ebola virus and similar detergent products underpin what we've always said in ANSWER Me!: The best humanity can hope for is to be eventually crushed by nature.

Well well well, the Los Huevos 7" is here! The last record to be released by this late great. In case you didn't know, they were a Sacramento band from 1992 to 2000. To get the full story, read this page. If you like meaty, hyperkinetic punk rock, you really owe it to yourself to get this record. This is an edition of 300 on black vinyl, in a really handsome 4-color screenprinted cover. They're $3 postage paid in the US.

God damn boring ass stupid day. I need to retire to the hospital of scantily clad nurses. I'm no match for the corporation. If punk rock means having a goddamn dog food can silkscreened on your shirt well I quit. Dog chains are for pets. Grease is for food not hair. Me and Scott were laughing last night about how if we tried to playyyy like on that Los Huevos 45 for one minute we would have to go home and take a nap. We request a dignified retirement with no "reunions". Update the fucking news page already, would ya? Shit. I wonder how I could get up there to go drinking tonight? Actually I have band practice tonight with the Crap I mean Clap. Hey man, look up Wouter Basson. Fucking asshole. He's probably the only heart surgeon in the world who oughta get "curbed". Time to get the mail.

APRIL @& (27) 2001

Let's see, can't remember anything.
A-FRAMES have been on a little break and will be until our Gibson's show on May 18th, then we play Fallout records on the 20th. Got a new Dragnet 7" in the works - the recording is done so we should have it in the next couple months.

INTELLIGENCE THIS SATURDAY AT GIBSON"S - SEEYOU THERE!

DIPERS will be off to sunny 95 degree sacramento to sweat on our friends couches down there and record our upcoming Dragnet release. I don't know what shows we are playing, there ain't many and we're not expecting a huge (any) turnout - but we'll have fun anyway. The price we pay for being ahead of our time…

LOS HUEVOS - We're just waiting for the records to get here for the new LOS HUEVOS Dragnet 7" - if you ain't heard 'em you're missin out. Their last 7" MANLOVE/MASERATI is one of the best rockin punk records ever made. They play Crime better than Crime for fucks sake. All you drummers out there listen to this and cry yourself to sleep -- you''ll never be able to do that shit you losers.

TOP SECRET PROJECT - It's top secret so I can't tell you about it - neener neeener. Byebye.

FUCK, if you missed the King Brothers you definitely fucked up. Melanie Gloryhole said "they SOAKED my fucking panties", they were amazing, believe the hype. Ok, so we started another band, I'm sorry, but we didn't want to cancel the Evaporators/Bloodhag show, and I don't know what to do with Emphysema outta town so we're piecing together a one off thing called the Un-Natural Helpers. It's got Dean Fudge, Jed (x-Valentine Killers/Record Breakers) and yours truly, it was supposed to have Cholera A-frame too but Dean accidentally kicked him out with his poor email phrasing and when we tried to get him back he quit (good idea). Anyway, it's basically Dean's songs that didn't make Double Fudge, not that they aren't TOTAL FUCKING QUALITY. So hopefully you can make it to Gibsons TUESDAY (the only night of the week worth playing) the 10th.

Thanks to all who turned up at THE DIPERS emphysema birthday show on Tuesday - we had a pretty damn good time for being the opening act on a Tuesday night. But then - when you're opening up for a great band like THE TESTICLE how can you go wrong really??? and special thanks to THE GLORYHOLES for the silly string action - I just got the last of it outta my teeth this morning.

A-FRAMES tomorrow at the breakroom - with the amazing KING BROTHERS from japan! Don't miss it! We still have a few copies of our new single but they are going fast - we're trying to get some more but no guarantees so get one while you can!

THE INTELLIGENCE
are playing the crocodile on Saturday the 7th - I don't know all the details but they'll be posted soon.

THE DIPERS
will be going on tour in early may - watch the SHOWS page for details on where we'll be playing. The next DIPERS show is april 20 at gibsons with THE BLOW UP and THE GLORYHOLES. It will be total destruction so please don't be late...

AND!!!! Don't forget the BLOODHAG, EVAPORATORS show on Tuesday april 10th which will debut the new all star band THE FAGOTARDS (ok - that's not their name). Anyway - it's got all your favs - lars, min, dean and special guest jed - the only one missing is me! - you fuckers! - I hate you!

A-Frames finally played a real show in Portland, that is one with us on the bill. The fantastic and friendly Nearly Deads asked us down to the Satrycon. First was the Adhesives, good sassy new wave complete with striped outfits, plenty of yellow, skinny ties and safety pins. And great keyboards. Pot and Pabst continued. Second was 10-4 Backdoor, staring King Louie and Kris from the Nearly Deads. K.L. wants to change their name to G.G. Top which is exactly what they sound like; triple guitar greatness. Pabst still flowing. Next was the Nearly Deads who were great as usual. I think they brew the Pabst stronger in Portland. Emphysema knocked over my cymbals and it was time to play. We all tied for the drunkest A-Frame and the set was fun. We made sure nobody got any money (the 50 or so were on the guest list?) and went to the Nearly Dead house for very late mayhem. Please do not hug King Louie (or gently kick him square in the b-hole) no matter how drunk you both are (he's not as homoerotic as the gAy-Frames). Then the Hotel for Red Stripes (thank you T&T). Someone(s) took of their underpants. Fun. ps. PLEASE help the dipers overcome a TUESDAY at the CROCODILE next week.

Anyone remember The Blind? Didn't think so, but they've been reincarnated as The Dipers and last weekend played a great set of slash and burn rock that was energetic, noisy, and totally fucked. I mean, who else opens a set by covering the classic "Get Outta My Bunnyhole"? You get the idea... The Dipers are the latest Dragnet sensation. The Stuck-Ups opened the show and have a new bass player who slid right into things and they were great as usual. The Wiretaps keep getting better every time I see them. When do we get a recording of the new and improved power trio version of the band? Dan was playing great records all night long as well.

"Plastica," the second A-Frames 7" is out now, available from SS Records.

February 12, 2001

Dan Dan Dan. Do NOT fuck with Dan. He will punch your face 50 times even after getting hit with an empty pint glass and slicing his head open. I'm glad he's on our pink team. We played the sit and spin and that place sucks. Except for ___ who rules with the recycling of the drink tickets. Thank you _____. Yeah, we opened for the Makers and someone else and got paid zero dollars because we forgot to have a guarantee, but that's ok because we do it for the people, like the Blow-Up and Jed and Kevin and the Stuck-Ups and Tracy and Lara and everyone else.

Other than being teased with the Makers' singer's NIPPLE that's it. And damn it, the Intelligence have to play there this Wedneday, but it's with the Stereotypists who are Good. Also in good news, the Dipers get to rock the Sunset Tavern on Saturday (with the Wiretaps and the Stuck-Ups with Dan Right-On DJing) this is going to be a good night I promise. (And Min better be there!)

January 29, 2001

Dan, Dan, Dan. Anyone who saw Dan on Thursday at the Foxxxes debut Dipers show knows what I'm talkin about. Anyone who didn't should have been there. Get Down Syndrome rocked. Good fun no matter how ya slice it. The night before was A-Frames at the croc - ok - I hate playing on any night before Thursday basically, and Thursday is only acceptable if it's at Foxxxes. Sorry to be so fussy but it just ain't as fun when you have school the next day. Those hungover recess breaks are brutal. Thanks to all the kind folks who came out on Wednesday, sorry for the lackluster rock and I hope to repay the favor someday…Next came Friday, night 3 in the rock trilogy for Lars, All I had to do was drink and watch the bands that night - and it was a pleasure for sure. The Intelligence have definitely hit their stride - if you haven't seen em lately you better drag your ass out soon - great sets by the Stuck Ups and the Gloryholes rounded out the evening. Then I put on my wig and hit the dance party circuit! - if you haven't seen the new dance craze invented by Lars called "DO THE EPILEPTIC!" man, you just don't know what's goin on.

Also, we're gonna try to do an email list, so if you want info on anything dragnet, like shows, records, tours, etc, email us and let us know! Then sit back and watch your mailbox fill up with porn and get rich quick schemes.

December 20, 2000

Well I missed yet another Intelligence show, Thursdays are just not a good night for me and that's all they EVER seem to play on. I'm told it was a sketchy night full of silly soundmen and things like that - but the Intelligence gang took the fuckin high road and played a killer set! I mean is it just me, or do amps sound funny when you point them at the wall? Seems like the knobs would be on the back if that was how it was supposed to work - but hey - I'm no sound guy that's for sure (and no offense to Adam W. who is the coolest sound guy of all!). Can't we all just get along?

Anyway, unless you're some fucking idiot from Texas who just won the lottery and is now the King of Earth, the holidays fucking suck so get ready for boredom and depression. Drinking helps for a little bit so my advice is to pursue that route as a cure for the looming tedium. Just remember it'll be over soon and you can get back to going to A-Frames and Intelligence shows and fun shit like that. We do have one A-Frames show on December 30th, so if you're waiting until new years to do yourself in rather than rushing into it on xmas, come on by and catch one last show. It's with our friends the Spits and also the Pinkos.

So happy fucking new year and xmas and all that shit. May the fucking space odyssey 2001 bring you fame and fortune and knee high boots and a leopard jacket and more guitars and messy dipers and muscle relaxers and 18 packs of bud and a decent show in SF and tall shoes (that's for Scott S) and a drummer that's half as fucking good as you (that's for Chris W) and plain fucking cheese pizza and 10 cans of silly pork and smoke machines and Early Times and more plain cheese pizza and E and bleached hair and drunk rich guys that buy you drinks when you insult them and a late might with Dan from Right On (because he's fun!) and new underwear and stinky towels and so on and so on…

Fuck it.

December 5 , 2000

So we got THE FALLOUTS to play a show. Talk about pulling teeth, jeepers! But shit it was worth it, they were amazing, tastefully dealt with Dean Fudge's heckling and they even took a request, uh well, one unaccompanied lick of 'Dirty Water' by the Standells but still. The place was packed (hopefully due in part to the rumor that we would play our hit "Batman" I remember when we wrote that in '79 (we were called X then) and nobody liked it, I guess we were ahead of our time). The wonderful STUCK-UPS opened and had the goods. Matching white go-go boots, miniskirts, tights, and turtlenecks, not to mention great songs with sassy harmonies. Go see them! And the breakroom was great, plying us with drinks and money! Too bad the night had to end with backstage nut kicking, beer throwing drama, but I apologize for my involvement.

Oh, and the Intelligence is playing the Graceland Thursday Dec. 14th, and we've actually practiced!

November 14 , 2000

I hear those crazy kids THE INTELLIGENCE shook the shingles at their FOXXXES show. Wish I could have been there but I was busy washing my socks and tidying up my coin collection. Hopefully the next show (see SHOWS) I'll be able to free up my schedule and check em out. If they can just get Mike to play the right song their gonna be a force to be reckoned with…

Gibson's worked it's usual magic at the A-FRAMES, PULSES, CRIPPLES show last Friday (in other words everyone got too drunk). The cripples came out rockin and did a really cool, noisier than usual set. Next up were the Pulses who broke out a couple new songs that sound great as well as a selection of their usual cool ass mod favorites. The A-Frames set was sketchy but energetic - Lars drumming was even more creative than usual. It gets hard for me and Min to keep up with the complexities and nuancical wanderings of his progressive drumming style but we do the best we can…

Check out SHOWS dammit! There's a few great new ones on there you're not gonna want to miss.

A-FRAMES
Tour was a blast - thanks to SCOTT S, CHRIS W, SAKURA, KARATE PARTY, SIR AND THE YOUNG MEN and everyone else for all their help. While we were in Sacto the test pressing for our upcoming SS RECORDS single showed up, the records should be arriving any time now. It's 2 songs from our last tour/recording session/Sacto vacation with Chris - PLASTICA b/w HOSPITAL. We recorded again this time - put down some favorites including: TRACTION, YOU'RE SO CHEMICAL, BUMBLE BEE, and more. We'll be figuring out what to do with that stuff soon…

The SUNSET TAVERN show on the 21st was a real good time. We played a packed house with our friends THE WIRETAPS, who came out in their new power trio format and kicked ass. We all think Lisa is cuter than their old singer anyway (not as sexy as Dave but who is). Thanks to Drew for setting that up - and the strip tease halftime show was a perfect touch.

THE INTELLIGENCE
Debut of the new line-up (featuring Jo Claxton on bass) will be this Thursday, November 1st at Foxxxes. Be sure to drop in for fog and fun.

More cool shows coming up in November and December so check out the SHOWS page for details…
